Fishing for the Big One
My family get together every weekend is a fishing adventure out in the gulf from our home that lies on a canal way backside from an unnamed
lagoon then out through the pass from panama city, this is the greatest fun to take your family out on the weekend catching whatever we can by doing a little bottom fishing you never know what the heck you will pull up like a octopus or a devil fish but what we really like to catch are red snapper during season because they make a excellent supper , we clean them on the boat and fire up the grill if the seas are calm but if its rough out we will take it back in and take care of it at the house.
I consider bottom fishing play fishing but the kids are into it so I let them do that before we get serious and do some trolling, We use Daiwa fishing reels like these and to be specific most of my reels are the saltist reel with lever drag coupled to a shimano tiagra rod, this combination works great for me but everybody has their own feel for their equipment this reel helps control the line better without breaking it and losing a fish,it really pisses me off to lose a fish because its always a big one that gets away.
Long before I knew much about what fishing reels and rods to buy I would buy abu garcia reels because thats what the fishing shop I frequented had for sale in a big way,let me tell you they were excellent reels back about 25 years ago and I still have my old reels but they are put up in the stable and a few years ago we tried the new models that daiwa has and are very happy because they are easier to handle and there are a limited amount of well placed controls , the other reels we old style and someone would always be asking what button does this or that so it was a constant hassle keeping every body educated on the old abu garcias. Now the problem has been solved and fishing is more enjoyable mainly because I am not running around all over the boat showing everybody how to operate their reel , show them once and that is all unless one of the kids isn’t paying attention.
